Change Without Changing
Whether we look around us or within ourselves, we may notice resistance to how reality is unfolding. The mind comes up with all sorts of ideas to fight this resistance and get rid of it.
At the same time, something in us knows there’s nothing wrong with what’s happening right now. Yet still, we often feel the urge to run from it or do something about it.
In both cases, we’re moving from a limiting perspective, rooted in the belief that something must be done. We may also sense that nothing needs to be done, that reality as it is is already complete. So why do we still feel compelled to change it?
Even drawing the conclusion that there’s no need to do anything can seem like an answer, but that isn’t necessary. At times, what’s happening might include apparent action. It’s not about holding on to a conclusion. And if we do find ourselves doing that, then that too is part of our reality for now.
Many of us struggle with the challenges life brings. We invest in retreats, spend large amounts of money, all in an effort to escape what feels like the painful predictability of life. But what seems like the reality we’re stuck in isn’t actually the case. We’re just looking in another direction, not yet noticing what’s here.
Fortunately, we don’t need to look in a certain direction or replace one set of beliefs and thoughts with another.
